He’s all in folks!!! JD is eating a plant based diet!!!!

My hubby, formerly known as a lover of all things meaty does not eat meat anymore. No chicken, no beef, no pork.  It took a year and 1/2 but he’s decided that he feels better eating a plant based diet and his tastes have changed so much meat tastes bad to him now and makes him feel lousy. I can honestly say that when we started this journey, I never, ever thought this would happen. I never thought Mr. Burger would get grossed out by burgers, or that he would be eating all of the things  that he is now eating. We were at Gracias Madre the other night (if you haven’t been there best vegan mexican on the planet - in W Hollywood) . Anyway, he ate a sweet potato and squash enchilada and I almost fell off of my chair. And he loved it. He then ate a mushroom taco, and again, nearly feel off my chair  A year ago, he would've scrunched his whole face up and pushed it away and never even given it a try. He ate both of them with a huge smile on his face and said he couldn't believe how much he loved them. I think it was probably helpful that he was eating them seated next to T.Colin Campbell.  We had a fundraiser for PlantPure Nation at our home and he invited us out to dinner the following week. I cannot say enough about this man and all that he has done for the world. He and his wife are two of the most lovely people I have ever had the privilege of spending time with. He truly makes you want to be a better person. Now back to JD...

He told me about mid May that he is all in now and if God forbid, he does get cancer or heart disease he will know that he has done all he can to prevent them. I love that he put it that way, because a lot of people would say that if they get any of the diseases of affluence associated with the standard American diet, they would be so bummed that they ate a plant based diet for naught.... He on the other hand is really enjoying how he feels eating such a clean diet. He is running so strong and looking great so I think that helps as well :-)

Tastes do change!!!!!! They really do!!!! I'm seeing it so much with my kids too. I don't make any more meat in the house and they are super happy with that. They are eating all sorts of veggie stirfry's and things that they would've never eaten before. Granted, I started this a year and a half ago, but I didn't even think we'd be to the place we are now. Yes, as JD always says, I was relentless ( in a good way, kind of) in that I never gave up and kept serving some of the things they would deny 20 times until they would accept  them, and then eventually grew to like them. I had someone ask me the other day if I knew what my kids are doing when they weren't around me. Does anyone know what their kids are doing when they are not around you? Am I supposed to put a camera on them while they're eating? Honestly, I feel so good about what they are doing at home, that if they go out somewhere and have something that wouldn't be on my awesome list, I am not at all upset. I can only control what I do in my own house and I'm totally thrilled with what they are doing here. I've heard this so many times now, said in very snarky ways and I'm not really sure what people are getting at.  It's usually people I don't know very well, and they  suggest things like, "when your kids go off to college, they're going to go crazy and eat only beef and pork and candy." My kids, as much as they like to make fun of me, are learning through through example. They see how diet effects how you feel, how it effects the environment, how it effects animals, and how it can affect your health, especially a little later in life. My kids are pretty smart, and I'm pretty sure that I've given them no reason to "stick it to me" later on.

I hereby proclaim that you can teach an old dog new tricks!!  JD is a Veggie Man. No longer a Meat Man. He still has fish here and there, and he is a sucker for a great slice of pizza, but his diet is for sure 90% plant based. I am thrilled and happy to keep making great meals for him and he is happy to ask the waiter or waitress for a vegan meal.
